Spam is most often considered to be electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings. Spam is generally e-mail advertising for some product or service that is sent en mass to a mailing list or newsgroup or more recently phishing emails where the sender tries to get you to click on a hoax link in order for you to give away you password or login details to a secure website such as those providing banking services.
