A software program that scans and interacts with the internet usually to automate tasks or scrape data.
Bots vary in purpose from good to bad. A search engine may “send” a bot to a website to search and discover all the individual website pages so that it can include them in it’s index. It is also possible that a bot could be sent to a website to try and harvest e-mail addresses or to hack into a website.
