The description of a web page defined with the Meta Description tag in the head section of a webpage. This is typically used by Search Engines as a suggestion of what to display to their visitors in the form of a snippet when displaying a web page link as a result of a query.
Search Engines can choose to ignore this if they find other information on the page that they think is more representative of it content.
